About Jon Hudghton
I’ve been developing websites for about 12 years. Which is quite a long time. Like a lot of good SEOs, after originally being “just” a web developer, I branched out into the areas of SEO and usability. I now work in Manchester for an online retailer. I’ve happily worked there for over 6 years and I head up development, on-site SEO and usability improvements. You might see me wandering around at conferences from time to time; SES London is my most regular appearance. I also run a few affiliate sites and other bits in my spare time.
So, why have I decided to start a blog? Well, that’s a good question. Experience of development, SEO and usability has taught me many things, but perhaps the most important quality I’ve picked up in recent years is cynicism. There’s a lot of conflicting information out there regarding SEO and usability to put it mildly; if you believe everything you hear from every “expert”, you’ll come unstuck pretty quickly. That’s not to say there are not a lot of hugely knowledgeable people out there; it’s just that filtering out the good advice from the bad can often be tricky. And no one (and I mean no one) knows it all. It also bugs me that there’s so many SEO blogs out there that are just mind numbingly boring. So, I wanted to write an original blog based on my own experiences, rather than the usual rehashing of an existing story, as I find reading about the same kind of thing 50 times quite sleep-inducing.
Hence, my blog was born in April 2010. Sadly, as well as improving the internet, I do have other duties like watching Man City, renovating a house and keeping my darling fiancée Rose happy, so I can’t blog as often as I would perhaps like to. But hopefully you’ll enjoy reading and gain something from my posts. And don’t forget my special limited time promotion; leave a non-spammy comment and get a free no-followed link!
I should also add that I blog because I want to write, not because I want to make more cash. There are no ads and I don’t drop affiliate links, even when I’m linking to someone I’m affiliated with. So don’t worry, clicking won’t overwrite any of your affiliate cookies

If you want to ask me a question about SEO or usability, or you’d like me to take a look at your website and blog about what I think is wrong or right with it, drop me a line. Like the rest of this blog, anything I write is done in my own time and for free, so don’t be too upset if you don’t appear on the site.
